Double podium for Crankt Protein Honda Racing at Port Macquarie

It was a stellar day for Crankt Protein Honda Racing at Port Macquarie’s eighth round of the 2017 MX Nationals in New South Wales, as Todd Waters and Luke Clout both landed on the podium in second and third respectively.

Clout qualified for Super Pole, lodging the fourth quickest time of 1m47.379s, while Waters narrowly missed the session with the sixth fastest lap time.

In moto one, Queensland’s Waters maintained a consistent race to pilot his CRF450R to fourth, narrowly missing the top three by half a second.

MX1 rookie Clout finished one position behind in fifth, trailing Waters as he fended off round seven victor Kirk Gibbs for much of the 30-minute plus one lap moto.

Race two saw Waters soar to second after putting in a highly-impressive outing. The number 47 was challenged in the late stages of the moto, however he maintained his composure to hang onto the runner-up position, crediting him second overall.

Clout shot out of the gates to yet another hole-shot, leading the field for the opening lap before being relegated out of the top spot. The youthful rookie hung onto the lead pack for some time, crossing the line in fourth to award him his maiden premier class podium overall.

Waters maintains fourth in the championship standings, while Clout has elevated himself to sixth position and leading MX1 class newcomer with two rounds remaining.

The next round of the MX Nationals is scheduled for 13 August, at Toowoomba in Queensland, marking the penultimate round of the series.

Waters fourth, Clout eighth in challenging Shepparton round

Round seven of the 2017 MX Nationals series proved to be a modest day for Crankt Protein Honda Racing, with riders Todd Waters and Luke Clout finishing up in the top five and top 10 respectively.

Queensland’s Waters qualified for Super Pole, lodging the third fastest time of 1m33.606s, while Clout narrowly missed out on the session to be credited sixth gate pick for the two motos.

In race one the Honda duo found themselves within the top five, with Clout positioned as high as fourth following a healthy start, before a mistake derailed his plans and relegated him down the field.

Waters negotiated the challenging and demanding conditions to place himself in fifth, concluding the moto as the highest CRF450R-mounted finisher. MX1 rookie Clout regrouped from his earlier mistake to salvage a hard-fought ninth-place result.

With both Waters and Clout looking to make amends in their second outing, it was New South Welshman Clout who rocketed to another brilliant start aboard his Honda, leading the premier class field in the opening moments of the race.

The youthful talent soon began to drop positions, as Waters dug deep and progressed through the top five, placing himself in the thick of the battle for second with eventual round winner Kirk Gibbs.

The experienced number 47 maintained his placing in the top three, resulting in him falling just two points shy of the podium on the day, as Clout’s 9-6 scorecard credited him eighth overall.

Waters and Clout now sit fourth and seventh in the championship standings as the prestigious MX Nationals heads to Port Macquarie in New South Wales on Sunday, 30 July for the eighth stop of the series.

Clout claims best-career MX Nationals result at Nowra

It was a bittersweet day for Crankt Protein Honda Racing at Nowra’s sixth round of the 2017 MX Nationals in New South Wales, marking the recommencement of the series following a lengthy five-week break, highlighted by an impressive fourth place result for MX1 rookie Luke Clout.

Queenslander Todd Waters started on a positive note, claiming his third Super Pole in as many races to be credited three championship points in the process, while Clout joined his teammate in the session, lodging the fifth-fastest time.

It was Clout who shone in front of a home crowd in race one, negotiating the tricky Nowra circuit aboard his 2017 CRF450R with class to cross the line in fourth, setting him up nicely for a solid finish prior to race two. Waters encountered troubles in the opening laps of the race while running in second position, which ultimately forced him the retire from the moto.

In race two, Clout was again able to record a strong consistent finish of fifth, awarding him a well-deserved top five placing in fourth overall for the weekend. The premier class newcomer now sits sixth in the championship standings with four rounds remaining.

Waters came out looking to make amends in his second outing, racing to seventh in what capped off a challenging day for the experienced title hopeful. He maintains a top five position in the point standings with a firm hold on fifth ahead of Clout.

The MX Nationals will now head to Shepparton for the final Victorian stop of the series on 16 July, marking the seventh round of the prestigious championship.
