Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team finish fifth and sixth in MX1 Championship

The 2016 Motul MX Nationals came to a close for the Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team at Coolum on the weekend, with both MX1 riders Dylan Long and Jay Wilson finishing the season tied on points for fifth overall for the round.

With the stakes high heading in to the series decider, both Wilson and Long performed well on the rough and technical sand based Coolum circuit, even recovering from crashes and flat tyres to record results well inside the top ten.

Long, who participated in yet another GoPro Superpole on Sunday morning where he finished fifth, put in an impressive ride during moto one on the weekend. Despite suffering a flat tyre during the race and being forced to return to the mechanic’s area to have it changed, Long recovered to finish in 8th position. In race two, Long was on fire. After making numerous passes on some of this year’s front runners, Long crossed the line in the final moto of the day in 5th. Long’s 8,5 results at Coolum, rewarded him with 5th for the round as well as 5th in the MX1 Championship.

“I’m pretty happy with how the last round went. We had a little bit of bad luck in Superpole and the first moto, but we recovered and found our way back to decent positions,” Long shared.

“Obviously we’re a new team, and we learnt a lot this year, but to finish fifth in the championship, especially when the class is so stacked, is a solid achievement.

“The team have been really supportive this season and I’m very thankful for their support. We got some great results, we’re not too far away from podiums, and it’s been a successful year.”

For Wilson round ten at Coolum also provided the 22-year-old with success. After qualifying in 8th position on Saturday, Wilson got a good start in race one on Sunday. However, a crash during lap one saw the CRF450R rider go down hard, then forced to re-join the race at the rear of the pack. But Wilson got to work and clawed his way back to 7th throughout the moto. In race two, Wilson once again got to an impressive start, eventually crossing the line in 6th position. With 7,6 finishes, Wilson wrapped up the final round in equal 5th with Long, and finished his rookie season in the MX1 class with 6th in the MX1 championship.

“To finish the season with a decent result is exactly what we were hoping to do, and we managed to pull that off yesterday,” Wilson shared.

“Being my rookie season, this year was about finding my feet and working out where I fit into the MX1 class, and the team as well as the people around me have all continued to support me all season.

“I’m not entirely happy with 6th in the championship, I have high expectations of myself and I wanted to reward the team for their hard work – but what I am excited about is 2017. After learning so much, and going through plenty of highs and lows, as a team and rider we are in a good position to go forward together, and challenge for the championship in the future.”

The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team will now begin preparations for the first round of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship being held at Jimboomba in Queensland on September 17, 2016.

Crankt Protein Honda Racing team duo aiming to finish 2016 Motocross season on a high

The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team are gearing up for the final Motul MX Nationals round of the 2016 season, which is set to take place at beautiful Coolum Beach in Queensland this weekend August 27 – 28, 2016.

With both MX1 pilots Dylan Long and Jay Wilson racing to season best finishes at the team’s last outing at Toowoomba, both of the Honda CRF450R mounted riders will be hoping to continue with the same form, and finish the season strong at Coolum this weekend.

Long, who secured a third place in GoPro Superpole and finished in an impressive fifth overall at Toowoomba, shared that he’s looking forward to the final motocross round of the year at Coolum.

“I’m really excited for this weekend. Coolum is most peoples favourite round of the year, and I always enjoy racing there,” Long said.

“I was pretty happy with my result at Toowoomba, and I feel like we’re not too far off the pace of the front guys, so hopefully I can put together a similar result or better this weekend.

“The team have all put in a big effort to make these last two rounds as positive as possible, so I’m just hoping I can reward them with a good result when we go racing on Sunday.”

For Wilson, the final two rounds at Queensland have provided him with the opportunity to capitalise on reduced travel time, and said that he’s hoping to finish the 2016 motocross series on a positive note.

“I have a lot of really great memories of Coolum, and I had my most successful round of the season there last year. Hopefully that can give me some added confidence and we can finish this year with a good result,” Wilson shared.

“Last round was a step in the right direction for me, and although this season hasn’t turned out exactly how I would of liked results wise, we’ve made some improvements.

“Being my rookie year in the MX1 class I knew I’d have a lot of learning to do, which I believe I have. Now I’m just looking forward to getting this final round at Coolum done, so we can reset and focus on Supercross.”

Season best results for Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team at Toowoomba

Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team riders Dylan Long and Jay Wilson made significant progress at what was a tough and technical Round 9 of the Motul MX Nationals at Toowoomba in Queensland yesterday.

With both riders heading in to the round optimistic of improved results, the racing on the track from the Honda pair translated this weekend, with both Long and Wilson taking well to the Toowoomba circuit.

For Long, Round 9 started off perfectly, making yet another appearance in GoPro Superpole, where he competed with the series’ best riders to eventually take third with a 1:47.227 lap time. From there, Long looked to put two consistent results on the board, and in race one finished in an impressive 6th position, and then went one better in moto two, finishing in 5th. With two results well inside the top ten, Long wrapped up the round in 5th overall.

“It was a really good weekend for me – having had so much time off the bike, it’s good to know that I’m not too far behind the eight ball, and still able to finish inside that top five,” Long shared.

“As a team, we made a lot of positive progress today. We have some great people in our corner and it paid off on the track.

“I’m currently sitting in fifth in the championship which we’re happy with considering I was out of Round 8, so hopefully I can maintain that, and finish off with a good result at Coolum next weekend.”

For Wilson, Round 9 saw the Honda CRF450R rider qualify in 9th position, but from there, Wilson looked for more, racing to 8th in race one, and then an impressive 6th in race two, to conclude the round just outside the top five in 7th overall.

“Today was a much better day for myself and the team. We managed to make some solid improvements and it showed on track,” Wilson shared.

“At this point, I’m not exactly where I want to be, but we have a much clearer idea of where we need to improve, and how I can better myself as a rider going forward.

“We were lucky enough to have Craig Anderson in our corner mentoring us at Round 9 which was really cool, so we’re all looking forward to building off the results from this weekend and seeing what we can do at the final round at Coolum in a week’s time.”

Long and Wilson Queensland bound for Round 9 of the Motul MX Nationals

The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team are preparing to head to Toowoomba in Queensland for the penultimate round of this year’s Motul MX Nationals which takes place this Sunday August 21, at Echo Valley Raceway.

After a challenging outing at Shepparton, where Dylan Long was forced to sit out of the round due to illness, both Long and teammate Jay Wilson are close to being back to full fitness, with both riders hoping to finish the 2016 Motocross season with a bang, starting this weekend.

Long, who has spent much of the last few weeks recovering from a virus, shared that he’s eager to get back on the Honda CRF450R for Round 9 at Toowoomba this Sunday.

“It’s been really good for me to have a bit of a break, I obviously needed it, and I’m feeling better already,” Long shared.

“I’ve rode a few times in the past two weeks, and just been doing some off the bike training to give my body a rest and make sure that I’m ready for the last two rounds.

“Hopefully I’ve got the virus I’ve been carrying sorted, and now I can focus on finishing the year with some solid results at Toowoomba and Coolum.”

Wilson, who has spent the last two weeks training in Queensland, is hoping that Round 9 at Toowoomba will be the turning point in his rookie MX1 season.

“I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s race at Toowoomba. My whole senior career I’ve had a lot of success there, and it’s a track that I always feel comfortable at,” Wilson said.

“I’ve had two good weeks on the bike, and managed to get a lot of quality riding in, so hopefully I can take all of the lessons I’ve learnt from this season, and put together some good results over the next two rounds.

“My family lives in Queensland so it will be nice to have some extra support at Toowoomba, and I’m just hoping that I can follow tradition and put together a good round of racing there again this year.”

The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team will now prepare to head to Toowoomba in Queensland for round nine of the Motul MX Nationals, being held this Sunday August 21.

Difficult outing at Shepparton for the Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team

The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team have taken the positives from the weekend despite a challenging Round 8 of the Motul MX Nationals at Shepparton in Victoria on Sunday.

With MX1 pilot Dylan Long sidelined for the round due to a virus, teammate Jay Wilson flew the Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team flag solo on the weekend, showing plenty of potential, despite suffering some bad luck.

After having electrical problems during qualifying, Wilson and the team made some improvements and he looked to redeem himself in moto one. After a great start, Wilson put himself in a position to battle with the front riders, however, only 10 minutes into the moto, Wilson came together with another rider, causing him to lose his exhaust, eventually nursing his machine to the finish line where he concluded the race in 8th place.

In moto two, Wilson started strong in position four, and managed to hold off Todd Waters for the first couple of laps. Once Waters came past, Wilson put his head down in chase, but unfortunately that was cut short with a crash four laps into the race, re-injuring his wrist which has just been recently operated on forcing him to DNF.

“I don’t really know what to say about the weekend other than I’m disappointed,” Wilson shared.

“I know that we all have bad days racing but Sunday was definitely one of the toughest so far in my career.

“As a team, after yesterday’s results we need to go back to the drawing board, and make sure we don’t have rounds like that again.

“We all have to work harder, so that will be the goal from now until Toowoomba and Coolum.”

The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team will now begin preparations for round nine of the Motul MX Nationals being held at Toowoomba in Queensland on August 21, 2016.
